Some H1f-groups with Unbounded Torsion and a Conjecture of Kropholler and Mislin

چکیده
Kropholler and Mislin conjectured that groups acting admissibly on a finite-dimensional G-CW-complex with finite stabilisers admit a finitedimensional model for EFG, the classifying space for proper actions. This conjecture is known to hold for groups with bounded torsion. In this note we consider a large class of groups U containing the above and many known examples with unbounded torsion. We show that the conjecture holds for a large subclass of U .

Torsion of cylindrically poroelasic circular shaft with radial inhomogeneity .some exact solutions for extruder
Torsion of elastic and poroelastic circular shaft of radially inhomogeneous, cylindrically orthotropic materials is studied with emphasis on the end effects example for extruder. To examine the conjecture of Saint-Venant’s torsion, we consider torsion of circular shaft with one end fixed and the other end free on which tractions that results in a pure torque are prescribed arbitrarily over the fr...

متن کاملNilpotency of Bocksteins, Kropholler’s Hierarchy and a Conjecture of Moore
A conjecture of Moore claims that if Γ is a group and H a finite index subgroup of Γ such that Γ −H has no elements of prime order (e.g. Γ is torsion free), then a Γ-module which is projective over H is projective over Γ. The conjecture is known for finite groups. In that case, it is a direct consequence of Chouinard’s theorem which is based on a fundamental result of Serre on the vanishing of ...
متن کاملOn growth of homology torsion in amenable groups
Suppose an amenable group G is acting freely on a simply connected simplicial complex X̃ with compact quotient X. Fix n ≥ 1, assume Hn(X̃,Z) = 0 and let (Hi) be a Farber chain in G. We prove that the torsion of the integral homology in dimension n of X̃/Hi grows subexponentially in [G : Hi]. This fails if X is not compact. We provide the first examples of amenable groups for which torsion in homol...
متن کاملFrom Acyclic Groups to the Bass Conjecture for Amenable Groups
We prove that the Bost Conjecture on the `-assembly map for countable discrete groups implies the Bass Conjecture. It follows that all amenable groups satisfy the Bass Conjecture.
